The word “VOID CHEQUE” may look very formal to you. But voiding a cheque is so simple and it is just like, walking in a park. So to have a better understanding of how to void a check, we have listed out the steps of voiding a check accurately.

There are 5 steps you must follow to void a cheque properly.

STEP NO 1  –  

This is the initial stage. You have to write the word “VOID” on your cheque with large letters. You can write the letters as large as possible. But be careful not to write the letters covering the numbers on the bottom of your check. Always use a black or a blue colour pen for this. If you use a pencil anyone can erase the letters an make it an invalid check. Therefore using a pen is extremely important.

STEP NO 2 –

You have to write the word VOID over the name of the person to whom you are writing the check.

STEP NO 3 –

We all know that there is a box on the bottom of a cheque to write the amount of money. This box is mostly found on the right side of your check. Take your pen and write the word VOID clearly over the amount of money.

STEP NO 4 –

You can see the box on the right corner bottom of your cheque. If you have already included all the details on your check, you can see your signature on it.

Once again take your pen and write the word over your signature.

STEP NO 5 –

Don’t forget to record the voided cheques. Always note down the voided checks in a special book or your computer software.

What if you have already sent it without writing void on it

If you forgot to void a check, but you have already sent it, you can still void it. But you have to be quick.

Make a phone call to your bank and provide the details of the check you sent.

Details must include The date, Monetary amount, check number, name of the person or the organization you sent it to and the reason to void the check.

Voiding a check online has to be done immediately. Most of the banks charge a fee for this. You must log in to your account and go to Customer services. You will get an option to cancel the cheque. Just type the check number and submit it. However, this has to be done quickly. Bank will not be responsible for anything if the transaction has been already done when you cancel it online.
